The Lee County Democrats are a minority in our county but we make up for it in hard work both at the local and statewide level. We have a permanent headquarters that is skillfully run by Helen "Minnie" Sheridan who is active in the Illinois Democratic Women’s Organization as well as the Penny Severn’s Educational Scholarship Fund.

Chairman Jerry Sheridan, a gentle giant, keeps in close contact with our neighboring counties as well as keeping in touch with Springfield. He is always there to lend a hand.

ACTIVITIES

Dinner meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month. Social hour at 6:30 p.m. Dinner at 7:00pm, Meeting at 8:00pm. Meetings are held in a different city in the county each month. A monthly newsletter announces the meeting place.

$$$$$$$ FUNDRAISERS $$$$$$$

Proceeds from our fundraisers are utilized to help support our local, state and nationwide Democratic candidates, as well as to maintain the Lee County Democratic Headquarters operations .

PROGRESSIVE DRAWING: A $1,000 drawing is held each month from April until August. The Grand Prize of $6,000 is drawn in September. Tickets are $50 each.

ANNUAL FAMILY PICNIC AND DRAWDOWN: Held on the Third Sunday in August at the Walton, Illinois, Picnic Grounds. 300 tickets are sold at $100 each. A ticket is good for 2 dinners and the drawdown. Tickets for the dinner only are available as well. Pork Chops, sweet corn, beans and tomatoes are the fare as well as soft drinks and beer. Softball, volleyball, music and rousing speakers are also part of the celebration.. The top prize for the drawdown is $8,000 with a total of $15,000 in prizes. There is usually a great crowd. Some local Republicans attend as well, because they know Democrats have more fun.

ANNUAL GOLF OUTING: Held on the second Saturday in September at Shady Oaks Country Club in Amboy. Shotgun start at 11:00. The price is $50 and includes golf, a cart, beverages on the course and a steak dinner. A good time!!!!

Dinner tickets are also available for non-golfers.
